AFFINITY SPA

Feeling beat up, tired, and generally unwell?

At Paso Robles Sports Club we have SO many ways to relax and recuperate!

Here's a few examples:
~Jump in the hot tub to ease tight muscles before getting a 30 minute SCALP AND FEET AROMATHERAPY treatment. Getting yourself prepared for your massage treatment enhances your entire experience by relaxing your body and opening your pores. The healing effect of the aromatherapy is doubled if your skin is warmed up and receptive to absorption. Hot towels and essential oils of your choosing are used in your treatment to deepen your relaxation. Feel pampered for only $50. (30 minute treatment)

~ Take the time to float around in our therapy pool, enjoying the warmer temperature of the water while moving your body. Do this right before a SPORTS THERAPY massage and see what a difference it makes! Active Release and Trigger Point Therapies are more effective when used in conjunction with prior stretching and warming of the joints through movement. Cold/hot towels and muscle ointments are used to deepen your relaxation. Feel better for only $85. (60 minute treatment)

~ Relax in the sun on our pool deck for 20 minutes before receiving a MYOFASCIAL RELEASE massage. This reduces stress and prepares you for a relaxing and pain-reducing Myofascial Release session. This method is very soothing, reduces aches and pains, is great for those with problems with inflammation, muscle spasms, post-op, emotional recovery, depression, and sensitive nervous systems. Feel like yourself again for only $75. (60 minute treatment)

~ Take TAI CHI with George in our upstairs classroom before receiving an ORTHOPEDIC METHOD massage treatment. Tai Chi opens the joints, relaxes the nervous system and actively stretches tight muscles. Also great for musculo-skeletal problems, heart problems, and for calming a busy mind. Orthopedic Method works on problem joints, relieves pain, reduces constricted movement patterns and is highly effective for chronic and acute joint problems. Feel like your body can move freely again for only $75. (60 minute treatment)

For private sessions with George, please contact Keri Keefer.
For free group session, George teaches upstairs, every Wednesday at noon.

Do you talk to yourself on the court?

When you play matches a lot of people talk to themselves. But why? Is that a good thing?
Should you? The pros do it.

Ask yourself questions when you play, but be realistic.

To win tennis matches you have to introduce positive self-talk. Tell yourself you have the skills and techniques to defeat your opponents. Tell yourself not be frustrated or angered when you miss a shot.

I never want my students to over analyze what they are doing wrong on the last point. However, one method to help you put the last point behind you is to process the prior point (or evaluate your strategy) before you start the next point. How can you improve your tactics? What are your opponent's weaknesses you can exploit? For example, when does your opponent come to the net? You should have a strategy starting the match to play your best, but often you have to adjust your match strategy based on how your opponent is reacting to you.

Do you engage in self-doubt or lose confidence when behind or when a match is not going as expected? Confidence is your number one friend in tennis. Without a healthy dose of confidence between points, you simply will not perform your best. However, for many tennis players, confidence is fragile. If your confidence changes from point to point – that's not real confidence. Real confidence is stable and based on months or years of practice and play. Remind yourself, no matter what the score is, you've earned the right to believe in your strokes and tennis abilities.

Top tennis players use a pre-serve routine to help them strategize and hone their concentration for each serve or return of serve. First, you want to make sure you're focused on the next point, not the last point, as discussed. Turn your back to the net until you are ready to face the next point. Second, have a clear plan for the upcoming serve or return of serve. Third, see or feel what you want to do to "program" yourself with positive images. Lastly, you must trust in your skills to execute with freedom and confidence.

Your mental toughness between points is critical to performing your best on the court. Top players in the world use routines to help them process the last point and mentally prepare for the next. You can also develop a routine to help you let go of the last point, adjust your energy level, instill a confident mindset, and prepare for the next point.

If you can accomplish these mental game tips between every point, you'll reduce mental errors and improve your consistency during points!
