Do you know we have a program specifically designed for those who have recently finished treatment or have recently been diagnosed with cancer? Cancer Wellfit Program is a free 10 week program that meets 2 days a week at the club and is led by Kathy Thomas. We meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays and advanced registration is required. Please contact [email protected] for more information or to sign up.

During the month of October, we met for walks in honor of those affected by Cancer. We had such a great time creating new healthy, happy habits that we have decided to continue into November. Trainers JJ and Kathy would love for you to join them in a walk to honor those affected by Cancer. We will meet on the Factory side on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 12:00pm to go on walks at Barney Schwartz Park. Bring a water bottle, wear supportive shoes and bring a hat, sunglasses and/or sunscreen. This is a free activity however any donations to our Cancer WellFit Program are appreciated. Aquatics News:

North County Aquatics is a year round swim team that practices at the Paso Robles Sports Club, and also happens to be the longest operating swim team in the county! NCA swimmers range in age from 5-19 and the team is open to both recreational swimmers who want to participate in a fun team activity while becoming stronger in the water, and competitive swimmers who travel to meets all over the county. On Saturday, November 5th, NCA will be holding a bake sale and silent auction 'Swim-a-thon' fundraiser at the club. While the NCA swimmers will be participating in fun races and water games ( open to any kids who would like to try out the team or join in on the fun) the bake sale and silent auction will be held out on the grass and open to everyone. Please stop by, grab some delicious goodies and support a great cause!
NCA is a non profit organization and all donations are tax deductible. Tax ID is available upon request. If you would like to donate directly to the online fundraiser, please visit: https://www.teamunify.com/TUMoney.jsp?team=nca or stop by the club to fill out a form at the front desk.

All donations go toward swim gear, scholarships, traveling to meets, and team events, while a portion goes to USA swimming to aid in youth swim initiatives.

Tennis Department

A special note from Head Pro Amy Barber!

Well Hello, this is Amy Barber,

After 6 years at PRSC, I am "hacking" the Tennis Newsletter for just this month with a few things on my mind. I hope you will indulge me for a few short moments.

I LOVE our club, and while the campus has so much to offer, and is the absolute pride of the North County, I always return to our greatest assist…our sweet members. You all are the glue that keeps me smiling. I love nothing more than teaching a lesson on court 2 and hearing laughter and chatter on all the remaining courts. I still hear a few of our members that lost brave health battles if I listen close enough. From the "OSH" heard from our women's teams to the squeaks of a child having a blast in our daily Academy drills, I just smile.

So how does this relate to value? Tennis remains a sport that requires a distinct and earned skill acquisition and there is great value in both youth, and adults setting their minds to accomplishing a new skill set. While our area tends to celebrate/embrace team sports I would like to highlight that indeed tennis is a team sport. Our adults participate in both CCWTL, and USTA combined teams, and our youth play on 5 different high school teams as well as tournaments and small league teams.

Since our Director Devin Barber has taken the helm, our Youth Academy has grown from 2 kids (thank you Blaney family) to 100+ at any given time. While tennis has always had this stigma of being an "ELITE" sport, I continue to be amazed at this inaccuracy. . I have only been at PRSC for 6 years but in that time our group lessons for juniors and adults HAVE NEVER RAISED PRICING. Absolutely everything in my world has increased in price. Everything from eggs to gas and all the things in-between have gone up exponentially in my world !! Did you know that as far as I can remember, a one hour group lesson is STILL $15, and a 1.5 hour group lesson is STILL $20 for our members? Please let that sink in for just a moment…a lesson learning a new skill is likely less than your daily Starbucks coffee. We offer loaner racquets, balls, and instruction in a team environment …and the start up cost is STILL $15 for juniors and adults that want to join a class and learn a new skill.

While I love cross training and all things sports, one weekend ( 2 days) away with a travel team and all costs involved is the equivalent of many months of consistent tennis lessons. Even if we compare local youth soccer/baseball start ups…uniforms, registration, snacks, pictures…months of weekly tennis lessons are still less expensive. OK…my vent is complete. That said, we also have a junior league with a few participating clubs/home and away matches and a uniform sponsor. We offered this for no charge last spring…yes you heard that correctly…kids from schools/homeschools all over the area playing together day in and day out on teams.

Tennis is my passion and I know it will be until I am no longer. I love seeing our member Alan, who, at 87 years old, strongly battles our pros for an hour straight (at least once a week). I love our 4 women's teams (50+ women) cheer each other on and mix and mingle with smiles. I love that occasionally a large chicken runs through our campus. I love that our men "trash talk" in our live ball clinics and mix in with our stellar youth…I LOVE that our members happily welcome guests and visitors to our area with open arms. It all makes my heart sing. Tennis is that sport!

So all in all I just wanted to say that there is such value in learning this wonderful game. When I see our older players mentoring 4 year old Young Ballers for the very same cost as a decade (my best memory) ago, I sure as heck believe it is worth smashing the "elite" status given. As part of your tennis staff I just wanted to reach out and share the things that bless my heart. There is great value in learning a skill not acquired immediately. The depth of tennis remains a lifetime sport and I love it with all my heart.

Thank you for your time, and thank you for letting me be a small part of your tennis journey.

Warmly,

Amy Barber
