A Note From Doc

Greetings Sports Club Members! It's been exactly 10 years since we took over at PRSC! With a tiny staff of Sara, myself and few others, we had big dreams and slowly but steadily grew. More people lead to more opportunities. There were the grass, patio & basketball additions & we doubled our tennis courts. Three years ago we finally completed The New Fitness Factory! More recently, we survived "The Covid".

It's been an amazing 10 years for me personally as well. From renting space for my chiropractic office to becoming Trainer and then Fitness Director, I've been a part of every phase of growth and had a hand in where we are as a club today. I've met dozens of people, made many friends and worked with some great staff. Now it's time to hand off the reins to Krista Triguero. She is extremely qualified and ready to take the club into the future. She will serve you well and make a great Fitness Director.
As for me, I will continue to coach and help folks on their health & fitness journey. If you have any questions, please ask or text / email me anytime. Thank you Sara, Staff, Members and our Owners for the last 10 years!

Why and How Athletes Need to Strength Train

Or how to be a better player? There are many aspects to reaching the top in your sport, to compete at your best, Let's start at the bottom and build upon a solid foundation. Desire & Dedication are obvious, but these must come from the athlete themselves, not their parents or coaches. Although it takes a team to support a person's athletic goals, Sport Coach, Athletic Trainer, Parents and Strength Coach (to name a few). The motivation and drive must come from within. Many hours are spent on technique and skill development but mental strength is also a skill! How to focus under pressure, competing when behind & overcoming adversity.

Getting back to the foundation, we build a better athlete in the weight room, kitchen and bedroom! That's right folks, you athletes need to "sleep like it's your job!" If you aspire to bigger and better things in your sport, you need to structure your day around quality eating, adequate rest and of course strength training. And you do this with a competitor's mind set. Yes it should be enjoyable, fun, and play-based, especially as a youth. However, at some point (people mature at different rates) what is "Fun" changes. Practice, Intensity and Pressure become Fun for the athletes who want to go to the next level.

The strength coach's job is to build a better athlete and deliver them to the sports coach who then builds a better player. We take young athletes and first work on their ability to handle increasingly intense bouts of exercise, also lifting / movement quality are stressed. Then we transition into more strength of key muscle groups, particularly the hips & core, often this starts with bodyweight exercises. As strength develops and the athlete can handle more intensity, we include power (speed strength) training. Things like box jumping or other plyometric exercises and eventually focusing on Olympic lifting. Oftentimes speed, agility and quickness training duties are split between the strength and sport coach, as they become more specific to the athletes deficiencies and the needs of the sport.

If you or your son or daughter are involved in sports, it may be time to up their game and start them on a structured, progressive strength program that will dovetail with their sports coaches practice schedule and program goals. I'm here to help!
